When Scrat accidentally provokes a continental cataclysm with a storm, Manny is separated from Ellie and Peaches on an iceberg with Diego, Sid, and Granny but he promises that he will find a way to return home.
While crossing the ocean, they are captured by the cruel pirate Captain Gutt and his crew. However, they escape, and Manny plots a plan to steal Captain Gutt’s ship and return to his homeland on a dangerous voyage through the sea. But the cruel pirates seek revenge against Manny and his family and friends.

Ice Age: Continental Drift Plot Summary
Manny’s daughter, Peaches, is growing up fast, and he is getting more over-protective of her as she wants to meet boys of her age. Every time she tries to meet Ethan, with her friend, Louis, a mole hog, she is prevented by Manny.
Ellie tries to calm him down and reminds him that she won’t always be their baby for much longer. When Manny embarrasses her in front of her friends, she is furious and yells at him, “I wish you weren’t my father!”
Meanwhile, Sid is reunited with his family. This reunion is short-lived as they abandon him again along with his obnoxious grandmother. She then wanders off, and The Herd tries to look for her.
Scrat’s latest mishap has cataclysmic effects as his acorn causes the split of Pangea. The seven continents are formed and begin to drift apart.
When the continents separate, the herd is split up with Manny, Diego, and Sid all stuck on an iceberg drifting away from the rest of the group. Manny shouts to his family to meet up at the land bridge.
The trio survives a heavy sea storm on the iceberg and then discovers that Sid’s Granny is there too by hiding in a tree trunk.
Later they are captured by pirates led by Captain Gutt, a giant ape, and his First Mate, Shira, a female saber tooth tiger.
Gutt attempts to get them to join his gang of pirates, but they refuse, condemning them to walk the plank instead. They manage to escape, and their actions destroy the ship in the process.
The Pirates are separated from Shira though Gutt is not concerned about her being rescued by our heroes.
When the herd reaches an island, Shira tries to escape but is unsuccessful. The pirates also get to the island and force hyraxes held captive to build a new ice ship.
The trio learns of this and wants to steal the ship to get home. Manny, Sid, and Diego meet up with free hyraxes and can communicate with them with the help of Sid’s comical exploits.
With their help, they will free those captured and steal the ship. By morning the plan is set and ready for action.
Shira finally manages to escape, but Gutt is very angry with her on her return. Why didn’t she kill the herd when she had the chance?
Shira is removed from her post and replaced by Squint for her punishment. It is then that the herd attacks and captures the ship and free the remaining hyraxes.
Shira is able to catch Diego, but he tells her she should join them instead. She lets him go and buys them time to escape from the pirates.
Gutt is in hot pursuit as he creates a new ice ship and commands his narwhals to power it. He vows revenge on the herd and wants to kill Shira.
Peaches goes into an underground location to meet with Ethan and his group back on the continent. To join them, she must deny her friendship with Louis, and he hears this, which makes him very sad.
Back on the ice ship, the herd is on their way home, and Diego is very concerned for Shira. It’s now that Manny and Sid realize that he is in love with her.
On their journey, they encounter Sirens, dangerous aquatic beings that can lure people to their deaths by looking like someone they love.
Diego sees Shira. Sid sees a beautiful sloth while Granny sees a hunky surfer sloth. Manny sees his family, but he realizes the illusion and manages to steer the ship around them.
When Ellie, Peaches, Louis, Crash, and Eddie arrive at the land bridge, they discover it has broken. Then Manny and the others come too to find the bridge is no more, but he is happy to be reunited with Peaches and Ellie.
To their horror, they find that the pirates have already arrived here too, and they capture Ellie and Peaches.
Manny offers to surrender himself to Gutt in exchange for his family, but Gutt is not interested. He wants his revenge. Then Louis comes to the rescue as he defeats Gutt using his unique skills.
The battle begins as Sid and Granny are saved by her pet whale Precious to defeat the pirate crew. Peaches can beat Gutt and save Ellie using her possum skills, making Manny realize he has been wrong about her.
Gutt soon recovers and challenges Manny to a fight. But, just then, a new landmass erupts out of the sea and breaks the ice ship they are both standing on.
As this chunk of ice slides down the side of the landmass, Manny can flip Gutt high into the air before smacking him with a tree trunk out into the sea.
The ice chunk slips off the land and falls into the water, and Manny is heading the same way until Precious, Sid, and Granny save him.
Gutt recovers but discovers a female ape, a siren in disguise, nearby him. He falls for the illusion, goes up to it, and is killed.
Manny is reconciled with Peaches. Shira becomes Diego’s girlfriend and joins the herd. Manny and Diego tell Sid and Granny that they are not screw-ups but heroes.
Louis has earned respect from the other mammoths, allowing him to hang out with them. After the new landmass has destroyed their old continent, they move to a new one, where the hyraxes live, and begin their new lives there.
