When Van Helsing’s mysterious invention, the “Monsterfication Ray,” goes haywire, Drac and his monster pals are all transformed into humans, and Johnny becomes a monster.
In their new mismatched bodies, Drac, stripped of his powers, and an exuberant Johnny, loving life as a monster, must team up and race across the globe to find a cure before it’s too late and before they drive each other crazy.
With help from Mavis and the hilariously human Drac Pack, the heat is on to find a way to switch themselves back before their transformations become permanent.

Hotel Transylvania: Transformania Plot Summary
Transformania begins with a flashback of Dracula and Mavis first opening Hotel Transylvania. The flashback montage shows the two enjoying running the hotel throughout the years.
Other notable characters such as Frankenstein appear throughout the sequence. The flashback scenario ends with Dracula and Mavis dancing from when Mavis was a kid to an adult with Johnny by her side.
Hotel Transylvania is celebrating its 125th anniversary, opening with Johnny singing “Just the Three of Us,” a variation of the song “Just the Two of Us, to celebrate the hotel’s milestone.
Johnny plans a unique evening of events, including Dracula’s ice sculpture, zombies dancing, fire performances, and Frankenstein juggling chainsaws.
The evening gets a bit out of hand, so Dracula freezes everyone except Mavis and fixes Johnny and the others’ mess. Ericka and Van Helsing approach Dracula, and they proceed to talk about Johnny giving him a headache with his surprise plans during this prestigious event.
Ericka tells him to take it easy, and they talk about Dracula’s planned announcement to make Mavis the new head of the hotel, which Mavis overhears thanks to her supersonic hearing. Mavis, in her excitement, tells Johnny about Dracula’s plans to retire, leaving the hotel to the two of them.
Being overwhelmed with excitement, Johnny approaches Dracula, preparing his speech for the planned announcement, and tells him how excited he is for the opportunity, telling Dracula about his plans to renovate the hotel.
While Johnny explains his envisioned changes, Dracula starts to picture Johnny running the hotel, ultimately something he dislikes.
Thinking that Johnny will ruin the hotel and everything he was worked for, Dracula tells Johnny that there is ancient real estate law that only allows monsters to own the hotel, making Johnny unfit for the role.
This lie made by Dracula causes him to change his big announcement. Instead of announcing his retirement, he reveals that the hotel is expanding. Johnny, who was blaming himself for messing up the big announcement, is overheard by Van Helsing, who decides to help Johnny in his “I’m not a monster” problem.
Van Helsing presents to Johnny the Monsterfication Ray. After testing it on his hamster Gigi, he uses the device on Johnny, which transforms him into a green dragon-like monster. After learning the transformation, Johnny quickly leaves to tell Mavis of the change.
Much to the dislike of Dracula, he chases him to try changing him back to his human form. Dracula messes up his shot during the chase and hits himself with the ray, transforming him into a human, and the crystal used to power the Monsterfication Ray breaks.
Johnny and Dracula approach Van Helsing regarding the issue. Helsing tells them it is still possible to turn themselves back to normal by getting a new crystal used to power the device located in South America.
During the chase from earlier, Dracula accidentally hit his ice sculpture with the Monsterfication Ray set on a human, causing the drink from below the statue to have the effects of being turned into a human on it. Frank, Wayne, Griffin, and Murray end up drinking the drink, and they are all transformed into their human form as well.
The crew set off to South America to search for the crystal and return everyone to normal. During their trip to South America, Dracula and Johnny show in the news which Ericka and Mavis see. They confront Van Helsing about what happened to Dracula and Johnny.
Van Helsing warns them that when you get transformed into a monster, as time goes on, it will incur more changes, including hostility. With this in mind, Mavis, Ericka, and the others find Johnny and Dracula in South America to cure them.
During their travels in South America, Dracula and Johnny continue to hang with each other, slowly forming a bond. While the two were having a heart-to-heart talk, Dracula eventually confesses to Johnny that he lied about the monster real estate law that he mentioned to him earlier.
During this confession, the group finally finds them camping out and is joined by them. Johnny tells Mavis about the monster real estate law, which she tells him she’s never heard before.
The group ends up confronting Dracula with his made-up lie that caused this problem that they are facing. Dracula confesses why he did what he did. His confession hurts Johnny’s feelings greatly, and he doesn’t see himself as not part of the family, which causes him to mutate further as a monster and runs away, leaving the group.
Mavis blames Dracula for hurting Johnny, who only wants to feel like part of the family. She splits up with the group to look for Johnny while Ericka fills in Dracula on what could happen if they run out of time.
After a lengthy journey, Dracula and the gang eventually find the cave. Dracula and the group proceed to look for the crystal before it’s too late. Mavis eventually finds Johnny, but the mutation has worsened, and he is highly volatile.
Meanwhile, Ericka informs Mavis of their discovery, leading a mutated Johnny to chase her to the location. After arriving at the site, Johnny attacks the cave, eventually revealing the crystal they are looking for.
Mavis fires the repaired Monsterfication Ray, but it fails to turn Johnny back to normal. In his desperation, Dracula allows himself to get captured by the mutated Johnny, explaining how he’s genuinely sorry for what he did and how important Johnny is to their family.
This moving explanation by Dracula manages to snap Johnny back to his senses, and he is zapped to normal by Mavis. After Dracula and the others are turned back to normal, they go back to Hotel Transylvania only to discover that a heavily mutated Gigi had already destroyed it.
Dracula fires the Monsterfication Ray on Gigi, transforming him into a tiny cute hamster. With the hotel destroyed, Dracula gives the key to the hotel to Mavis and Johnny, telling the two that the hotel is theirs and they can rebuild it however they like.
One year later, Mavis and Johnny show the newly built Hotel Transylvania to Dracula with a few updates by the two, which Dracula comes to like.
