Meet the world-famous Peanuts Characters from the mind of Charles M. Schultz. These fan-favorite Charlie Brown characters were first introduced on October 2, 1950. The comic strip ran in the daily and Sunday newspaper until Shultz died in 2000.
The most famous Peanuts main character, Snoopy, won readers’ hearts in over 2,600 newspapers in 75 countries and helped propel the comic to great heights. Over a lifetime, Peanuts characters have jumped from the U.S. newspapers to the big screen many times.
Charlie Brown characters are featured in four well-known Holiday specials that include:
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
- A Charlie Brown Christmas
- Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown
These Holiday specials are often shown on tv during the holidays. The Peanuts gang also starred in a film animated by Blue Sky Studios in 2015.
With the unwavering popularity of Peanuts characters, the family-friendly crew is constantly creating new content, such as “Snoopy in Space” and “The Snoopy Show,” now streaming on Apple TV+. Although the imaginative Shultz is no longer with us, his life’s work lives on, thriving in the continued adventures of Charlie Brown and Snoopy characters.
Charlie Brown is the most supportive and sensitive Peanuts character. He is a baseball manager and a pitcher. He is often referred to by his full name throughout the show, except by Lucy, who calls him Chucky, and Linus, who calls him Charles.
Being the central character of the comic strip, he has a unique face. He has a slightly oversized head, a big nose, and a wide smile. His eyes and eyebrows are tiny, while a single curly hair sits on top of his bald head. He wears a bright yellow shirt, black shorts, and brown shoes.
Snoopy is the most famous American beagle that started as an average canine when the comic strip started. He is Charlie Brown’s dog and a faithful friend. His personality depicts a curious child that is too wise for their age. He is a daydreamer and steals the show effortlessly. This Snoopy character continues to steal the show with every generation of new fans.
The happy dancer sports black and white colors. He walks on all fours at the show’s beginning. Still, he evolves into a carefree character that finally walks on two feet. He wears a red scarf.
Lucy van Pelt
Lucy is another central Peanuts character. She is the eldest child and only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. van Pelt. Her closest friends are Patty and Violet, and she is Linus and Rerun’s elder sister. Lucy is a mean and sarcastic character who also plays on Charlie Brown’s baseball team.
Lucy wears a pair of white and black saddle shoes and a dress with puffed sleeves and a big bow in the back. She wears sweatshirts and pants when it is cold and dresses when warm. She also sports her blue dress when flirting with Schroeder.
Linus van Pelt
Linus is a well-informed character in Peanuts comics. He is the middle child of the van Pelt family and Lucy and Rerun’s brother. He always carries a security blanket that gets him picked on by Lucy. Snoopy likes his blanket.
He rocks stringy hair that pops on the ends when angry, surprised, or scared. The hair is black at the beginning of the show, but in the Peanuts Movie, it appears brown. He wears short black pants and a red shirt.
Rerun van Pelt
Rerun van Pelt is the youngest character in Peanuts. He is the younger brother of Lucy and Linus, who named him. Rerun first appears as a toddler but grows and later joins Charlie’s baseball team. He is friends with his brother Linus and the little pigtailed girl he adores.
During his infancy, he physically resembles Linus except in size. He has sprung hair and wears plain t-shirts and a bunch of hand-me-downs from Linus. Later, he still resembles his brother, but his head is rounder and larger with shorter hair. He wears overalls along with green, white, or orange striped t-shirts and black shorts.
Sally is the younger sister of Charlie Brown and the granddaughter of Silas Brown. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brown. As the strip continues, Sally starts as a baby and grows into a kind and cheerful girl. She is creative.
Sally wears flipped yellow hair with a bunch of soft curls initially held in place with a bow but drops it later. She also wears a light blue dress with polka dots and a bow on the back. Sally puts on a pink dress on Sunday strips. During winter, she dresses in shirts, pants, and a jacket that matches her dress.
Schroeder is a catcher on Charlie’s baseball team and Lucy’s crush. He is the closest friend of Charlie after Linus and Snoopy. Schroeder is a great piano player and loves classical music and the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. He is obsessed with Beethoven and avoids Lucy because he desires to remain a bachelor like his idol.
Schroeder always wears a t-shirt with thick black stripes. He has fluffy yellow hair and is always depicted playing his toy piano. His toy piano is painted black with white keys.
Peppermint Patty is depicted as a tomboy character in Peanuts. She didn’t know Snoopy was a dog until her best friend convinced her that the beagle was not a funny-looking kid with a big nose. She is Marcie’s best friend and has a crush on Charlie Brown, whom she calls Chucky. Peppermint Patty is sporty and social but struggles with learning and homework.
She has light brown medium-length hair with straight bangs. She also has a freckled face with a big nose. She wears pants, sandals, and a green shirt with black vertical stripes. She only wears dresses during figure skating competitions and when the school dress code demands it.
Woodstock is a small yellow bird in Charles Schulz’s comic strip Peanuts. She was initially female but is currently male. He is Snoopy’s best friend and sidekick. Woodstock’s mother left her eggs and didn’t return, but Snoopy took care of them, and they finally hatched into two birds. One flew away, but Woodstock had trouble flying and became close friends with Snoopy.
He doesn’t look like a regular bird or speak ordinary words. He makes non-verbal noises like sighs, yawns, and often snores to indicate sleep. He has tiny wings and constantly moves around upside down, knocking things over on the way.
Marcie is one of the notable female characters in Peanuts. She is Peppermint Patty’s best friend, but unlike her, she likes to read books. Marcie is introverted, a good student, and musically talented in playing the organ. She also has a crush on Charlie Brown.
She wears short black hair, an orange t-shirt, short pants throughout the show, and glasses that hide her eyes. Mercy has never worn a dress like the other girls in the Peanuts crew.
Pigpen is a cheerful and filthy little boy. Where ever Pigpen is, there is a dust cloud not far behind. Sometimes a dust cloud is shown following him, and sometimes, it appears when he hits a ball or catches a throw. Charlie Brown defends Pigpen and accepts him as he is, even if he is a little dirty.
Pigpen’s physical appearance is short and dirty from head to toe. He often has a dust cloud follow him around, causing many characters to cough and sneeze. Pigpen wears an army green shirt and pants with brown shoes.
Franklin is a happy-go-lucky busy body. He stays active with swimming, baseball, and learning to play the guitar. Even though Franklin stays busy with sports, he always makes time for his friends. Franklin goes to school with Marcie and Peppermint Patty.
Franklin’s physical appearance is an athletic boy with dark-colored skin. Franklin has short curly black hair and often wears blue or orange t-shirts.
Spike is Snoopy’s brother. He is chill, playful, and appears more than the rest of his siblings. Spike likes being involved in activities and storytelling. He is often sad when he is alone.
He is skinny with mustache-like whiskers and often wears a hat. He wears Mickey Mouse’s shoes in later strips.
