Scrat is still on the hunt to hold onto his beloved acorn while finding a possible romance in a female saber-toothed squirrel named Scratte.
Manny and Ellie, having since become an item, are expecting a baby, which leaves Manny anxious to ensure that everything is perfect for when his baby arrives.
Diego is fed up with being treated like a house cat and ponders the notion that he is becoming too laid-back. Sid begins to wish for a family of his own, and so steals some dinosaur eggs which leads to Sid ending up in a strange underground world where his herd must rescue him.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Plot Summary
The story revolves around the same group – only this time, Manny and Ellie, who are pregnant on their first child. Since this child will be their first, Manny tries hard to protect his family.
On the other hand, Diego feels disappointed in himself as he believes that he no longer has his predatory instincts. He could barely catch an antelope that was taunting him. He decides that maybe it would be best to leave Manny and his family.
Meanwhile, Sid is starting to get jealous of Manny’s family. He then adopts three eggs he found abandoned in a cavern. Although Manny ordered him to take them back, Sid took care of the eggs, which turned into Tyrannosaurus babies the following morning.
Sid raising three rambunctious dinosaurs did not fit with Manny’s effort to create a safe environment for his child. Eventually, the dinosaurs’ mother returned and took her babies and Sid underground.
Diego tries to pursue them, and he, Manny, Ellie, Crash, and Eddie, soon find themselves in a jungle filled with dinosaurs they thought were extinct.
There they are threatened by an Ankylosaurus and have to get a Brachiosaurus to lean down so they can slide down its neck. A crowd of dinosaurs chases them on the ground, but they are saved thanks to a one-eyed and crazy weasel, Buck.
Later on, Buck reveals that he has been living in the jungle for quite some time while chasing Rudy, the brother of the mother of the three dinosaurs that Sid adopted.
Worse, Rudy was also a significant threat to the world of the dinosaurs. Buck lost his one eye to Rudy and is chasing him for revenge.
He offered Manny and the others his help by leading them to Lava Falls, where he believes Sid and the babies were taken by the dinosaurs’ mother.
Afterward, Buck has to save Manny and Diego from a carnivorous plant again. Meanwhile, Sid and the dinosaurs’ mother were competing for the offspring through feeding them.
Sid lost but was still welcomed by the family. Out of nowhere, a roar led the mother dinosaur to nudge the kids forward, making Sid wonder what that creature could be. Later on, it was revealed to be Rudy, whose middle toe was the size of the mother dinosaur’s entire foot.
Next, Buck reveals how he lost his one eye to Rudy. Buck tells them that Rudy nearly swallowed him, but he was able to launch himself out of Rudy’s mouth, knocking off one of his teeth, which he now uses as his weapon.
The following night, Manny dreams about Ellie getting killed by Rudy. He wakes up from the nightmare and finds Ellie still sleeping. When she, too, woke up, Manny told her about his dreams.
Ellie comforts him by saying that the most unsafe place in the world is more significant than her and Manny.
When Buck hears that Manny needs to be kinder to Sid, he comforts him by telling him that Manny is now risking his life and his baby to rescue him, making him a good friend and a hero.
The following day, Rudy attacks Sid. The latter fell off of the mother’s tail. Rudy pursues Sid, and they both reach the Lava Fall’s shore. Rudy cracks the shore’s rock, and Sid’s slab floats off. Sid is comforted by the idea of escaping Rudy; however, he finds out that the lava flows towards a fall.
On the way to Lava Falls, Ellie suddenly goes into labor, and a pack of Guanlong attacks them. Ellie is then separated from Manny and Diego.
Buck, Crash, and Eddie attempt to save Sid, while Manny and Diego try to protect Ellie. Manny reaches Ellie at the same time their baby girl is born.
They name her Peaches, the safe word that they decided to use if ever Ellie goes into labor while on the journey. When Sid is rescued, he is saddened by not saying goodbye to the dinosaur children.
Before they can escape the jungle, Rudy is found to be a giant albino Baryonyx, the world’s biggest dinosaur. Rudy hid in the cave where the group entered.
His grey skin resembled the rock in the dark. When Buck said his goodbye to the group, they heard Rudy’s exhale, causing them to fear and realize that there was someone with them.
Buck tries to save the group by getting Rudy’s attention on him. He draws his sword, made with Rudy’s tooth, and Rudy instantly recognizes it. Buck barely escapes, and the gang is only saved by the dinosaur’s mother, who knocks him off a cliff.
Buck, who now no longer has anyone to take revenge on, stays with Manny and the group. Meanwhile, the mother and her babies could now say their proper goodbyes to Sid.
Later a roar told them that Rudy was still alive. Buck changed his mind, sent the group off, and even destroyed the path towards the underground jungle.
Manny and Ellie introduce Peaches to the frozen world and admit that Sid did a pretty good job raising the dinosaurs, even if it was only a tiny amount of time. Diego now decides to stay with the group.
Scrat falls in love with Scratte and decides to stay with her in the jungle. However, his passion for acorns overpowers his love for Scratte. The two fight over the acorn, and Scrat is repelled back to the surface while Scratte remains in the jungle.
Scrat celebrates his acorn for a while before it is knocked out of his hands. The acorn falls back to Scratte, and Scrat loses both his acorn and his love.
